Moving house is one of life's most stressful events, but it does not have to become a moving-day argument. Use this checklist to make the goods list, access, packing, documents, and payment release clear before the crew arrives.
8 Weeks Before
- Decide your moving date. Mid-month and midweek dates are usually easier to book than month-end weekends.
- Get quotes early. Use the Marshal calculator for an early estimate, then confirm the goods list and access before quote lock.
- Start decluttering. Every item you do not move saves packing material, crew time, truck space, and unloading effort.
6 Weeks Before
- Shortlist services. Decide whether you need household shifting only, vehicle transport, storage, or a survey-led intercity move.
- Notify your landlord or society office. Notice periods, move-out timing, lift rules, and deposits can affect the moving slot.
- Start address changes. Update bank, Aadhaar, utilities, insurance, subscriptions, school records, and office records.
4 Weeks Before
- Pack non-essentials. Books, decor, off-season clothes, rarely used utensils, and archive documents can be sorted early.
- Photograph electronics setups. Capture TV, router, desktop, monitor, and home theatre cable layouts before dismantling.
- Label every box. Mark room, contents, fragile status, and open-first priority on multiple sides.
3 Weeks Before
- Confirm building rules. Ask both societies about NOC, service lift slots, security gate entry, truck parking, and allowed move hours.
- Separate high-value goods. Jewellery, cash, original documents, collectibles, laptops, and medicines should not mix with ordinary cartons.
- Share photos for quote validation. Wardrobes, kitchen shelves, appliances, sofa sets, beds, fragile cabinets, and balcony storage often change crew and material planning.
2 Weeks Before
- Confirm your move date and time with Marshal.
- Review crew and coordinator details once the booking is confirmed.
- Pack an essentials bag with documents, chargers, medicines, toiletries, two days of clothes, keys, and basic food.
- Confirm destination contact. Someone responsible should be available for lift access, placement decisions, and payment release.
Moving Day
- Be present or assign someone trusted at pickup and delivery.
- Walk the crew through fragile items, high-value declarations, and do-not-pack items.
- Do a final walkthrough before the truck leaves pickup.
- Release payment via OTP only after delivery placement is complete.
- Record exceptions immediately. If a carton, appliance, or furniture piece appears damaged, photograph it before final closure.
